The Choose Your Own Adventure series of books were originally published from 1979 – 1998 by Bantam Books. The Choose Your Own Adventure books were one of the most popular children’s series during the 1980s and 1990s with over 250 million copies sold. While there are over thirty authors which contributed to the series, authors R.A. Montgomery and Edward Packer both contributed 60 books each.

This series has a high appeal to both established readers and reluctant readers due to the storytelling format, which is based on the reader making choices within the story that determines the main character’s actions in response to the plot.  “What happens next in the story? It all depends on the choices you make. How does the story end? Only you can find out! And the best part is you can keep reading and rereading until you’ve had not one but many incredibly daring experiences.”

In 2005, Chooseco, in association with Scholastic, began republishing many of the original titles. New illustrations and covers have been used, and the text has been updated.
